Our signature event - the Stoning of the Crows - is a real hoot!
The corrugated iron crows are on a stand and a line is drawn on the ground. Every one gets three tennis balls and if you hit the crow with one ball, you are into the next round. Males and females have separate throws. The next round the crow is moved back 1 metre and all who got through the first round, get another three throws. If you miss all three balls, then you're out.
This continues until we have two contestants left - two male and two female. They have their throws and if the number of hits on the crow is equal, then the crow is moved back until there is a winner.
It's a lot of fun, there's lots of barracking, hugely different styles both underarm and overarm - it all adds to the atmosphere and obviously no crows or people are hurt in the stoning.
Special thanks to the Men's Shed for creating the magnificent corrugated iron crows, which were humanly (if that is possible) stoned with used tennis balls. There were even four legged retrievers of balls - dogs who thought the balls were thrown just for them to chase, even if their humans were attached to a lead. No crows, dogs or humans were hurt during this game!
