2016 Stone the Crows Festival - Chronicle #3 |
Bolinda Audio Books - We are delighted to advise that Bolinda Audio Books are going to participate in the 2016 Stone the Crows Festival. Jim records all his books in an audio format with them and I must admit very little knowledge of the organisation. BUT having had several discussions with Olivia about how we could work together next year for our grey nomads, they are super impressive. Older format books are cover several CD's but the newer ones only take one or maximum two MP3 CD's. I have just started listening to "The Dressmaker" a very recently released movie (yes I know it's a girl thing and involves fabric, so it was appropriate while I was quilting) - with Rachel Griffiths reading, it is really expressive.
Olivia is putting together a selection from their absolutely vast catalogue for prizes (and for our merchandise stand if you're not lucky enough to win). Check out the hundreds of title at www.bolinda.com and let's know anything that particularly grabs your reading/listening taste. That will help us decide what topics are of interest to our flock.
Thanks Bolinda for coming on board and we are sure the audio book converted section of our flock will be delighted and those, like me, will think this is just what is needed while driving, doing the ironing or some other chore. For vision impaired people, it must be absolutely wonderful.
Seating in the Marquee – thank you to Col who suggested that we reserve some seats up near the big video screen for those visually impaired and macular degenerated members of our flock. We will certainly arrange this - please email bookings@stonethecrows.com.au if this applies to you or a loved one so we can mark your name badge with a special symbol accordingly.
Suggestions like this are always welcome - sometimes what is obvious to someone isn't to another.
Merchandise – Latest addition - our 2016 STC mug. It is a wrap-around design and the samples were just awesome! BIG thanks to Mike for the use of his drone photo, the two little crows were creatively added.
You might be able to find your vehicle from last year's Festival.
Volunteers - We have numerous people offering to help so could you please fill in one of our volunteer helpers forms so we can allocate you depending on interest and ability. As always, there will be some small thank you gifts for our Crow Assistants - the whole event would never manage without you, so another BIG thank you. Volunteer forms can be found through the news page of the website. Please fill out the details so we can organise our thank you gifts.
Plenty of Unpowered and extended generator area sites are still available. There is a waiting list for powered sites and only medically necessary requests will be added to the current ‘possibles’. Powered sites will only be available if there is a cancellation. Please make sure you put the combined length of your car+caravan, motorhome+car or other vehicles to make it easier to allocate your site.
Squawkers' Permits - just a reminder we need to wait for the road and drainage works to be completed at the ACTA grounds before we can finalise our site plan. Hopefully permits will be out in December. We will keep you advised as things progress.
Crafty Crows – again thanks go to Margaret who has volunteered to take some card making classes. Look at the photos and you will see some spectacular ideas. The Aussie ones, at the top of this newsletter, especially appeal to send overseas! The others are at the bottom after all this text.
Thanks also to Colleen who will help you make a recycled bag holder, as well as give you some tips on essential maintenance for your sewing machine and (if her arm has been twisted sufficiently) a demonstration of machine embroidery.
Daddy Day Care – Sorry guys missed the price of the little train. The train plus five carriages with five letters will be $50 - any additional letter is $7 each. If you would like a specific name, you can order and pay in advance so we can get it manufactured as a special order. Otherwise, you can just take whatever letters are available at the Festival.
Last year Pam (our Booking Crow for 2014 and 2015) purchased a little motorhome so it could go on a safari through the high country in Victoria. It was given as a present to the safari organiser, John, and signed by those on the tour.
Here is its journey
Where did your Daddy Day Care creation go? Does it have a story to share with our flock?
Email info@stonethecrows.com.au so its mates know of its adventures.
Rugs - Any knitted or crocheted rugs this year will be going to the Salvation Army, so while you are travelling (and not driving), keep those needles and hooks clicking through the yarn - they will definitely be appreciated and find a very much appreciated home.
That's about it for this edition. Please keep any suggestions or ideas coming - we do appreciate them and it could be something beneficial for others.
Till next time, travel safely and take care
Chrissy, Jim, Grant and all the STC team
